Mottahedeh Chelsea Sloane Botanical Bud Shell Dish, Metropolitan Museum of Art
This piece was produced by Mottahedeh Fine Dinnerware for the Metropolitan Museum of Art after pieces originally made by Chelsea Porcelain Manufactory (c.1753-55 in England) that featured botanical paintings by Sir Hans Sloane.  This piece was manufactured for Mottahedeh by Vista Alegre, a Portuguese porcelain works, and bears it's logo.
Sir Hans Sloane (1660-1753) was the Physician to Queen Anne, and a well known botanist.  He purchased a manor on the Thames in 1712, which he used to provide grounds for the Chelsea Physic Garden, of which he was a great benefactor.  This garden was originally established in 1673 to grow plants for use in medicines.  It still exists and is the second oldest garden in Britain.
The dish measures 6" x 5-1/2" x 1-1/4" and is in very good condition with no chips or cracks.  It has felt pads on the bottom as shown.
