Description
Antique Bellevue Hospital Surgeons Hat/Cap early 1900's. Blue wool, gold embroidery size 7 3/8. Excellent condition.Note: due to it's value, this item will be sent "signature required" for delivery with the USPS.
The history of the cap/hat is as follows:

Dr. John R. O'Connell passed away on September 26, 2007 at his home. He was 94. Dr. O'Connell was born on January 22, 1913 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Patrick and Louise Laudi O'Connell. He was educated in local schools and graduated from medical school in 1938. He served internships and residencies at Bellevue Hospital, NYC between 1938 and 1947, interrupted by five years of service in the US Army Medical Corps, including some time in the Pacific. In 1947, he entered the private practice of pediatrics in Yonkers, continuing until his retirement in January 1988. He was a member of the AMA, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and of the Westchester County Medical Society of which he was chairman of the pediatric section for several years. He was also a member of several social medical organizations and served as chairman of the medical committee of the United Way of Yonkers for one year. He served on the staff of St. John's Riverside Hospital, Yonkers General Hospital, and St. Joseph's Hospital. At St. John's, he was Chief of Pediatrics from 1960 to 1977.
