Description
This is a great condition antique (1840 - 1900) fleme, phlebetomes (phlebos for blood vessel and tome for to cut), blood letting knife. When you heard of old doctors in movies talk about bleeding someone this is what they used to perform it with. They were used a lot in the Civil War era. It has bone handles, brass body and good steel blades. The three blades are marked RWW Warranted and each has a different size cutting edge. The cutting edges of the blades are still sharp. The blades are strong and not nicked, the bone handle is perfect except for normal light scratching from use. The only flaw I see is shown in last photo where the brass is bent slightly. This does not affect the working or structural integrity of the knife at all. Everything works as it should and there are no cracks, breaks or bends except for what is shown in last photo. The tool is 3-1/8" long closed, 1" wide at widest point and about 3/8" thick. Blades are 2-5/8" long. Due to Ebay restrictions on knives this will only be sold to USA customers. We post all our items with Priority Mail shipping unless they are media or large.
